I felt there was no better time to start a blog than Super Bowl Sunday 2008. So welcome readers, to the first official entry in the blog of Ry for Ry.
Let me begin by saying that it is not a secret to any friends and family that I am a heterosexual male. With that preface in mind, it is also public knowledge that I have an unhealthy man-crush on Thomas Edward Brady Jr. Undoubtedly the best QB in the league right now, and one of the two best that have played this game in my lifetime. The guy has embodied selflessness throughout his years with the Pats, and quite simply, in the realm of pigskin, has displayed every trait that you would want from both a team leader and a technician of the most difficult position to play in the sporting world.
Brady goes into Super Bowl XLII against his nemesis' younger brother, Eli Manning of the New York Giants. While Manning is having a solid 2008 playoff run, he is a far cry from a guy you would want leading your team into the big game. Let's face it, though he has played well, the defensive line and the legs of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw are the main reasons the Giants have made it this far. And today, that unexpected journey will end at the hands of a team that is more experienced, prepared, and quite simply more talented in every facet of the game.
As a die-hard, green-bleeding Philadelphia Eagles fan, this Super Bowl kills me. As much as I love my boy Brady, I hate the rest of the team. Rodney Harrison and Bill Belichick are two of the more reprehensible characters in the sporting world today. In addition to this clear-as-day fact, they both played vital roles in beating my Birds 3 years ago in the Bowl.
On the other side are the Giants, our true NFL rivals. Between their Coach, their quarterback and the painfully annoying fans, despising them comes naturally to a Philly phanatic. There is absolutely no way I could condone routing for an NFC East rival in a Super Bowl, regardless of who they might be playing. And that friends, is why I am happy to tell you that the Patriots will win this game in a blowout. Too many weapons, Too much history on the line for a team that does not choke when the pressure's on. Oh, and Tom Brady vs. Eli Manning, enough said right there.
New England Patriots 37 New York Giants 14
Take the Pats -12 over Eli's crew and the under at 54. The Pats will hold up their end of the scoring bargain but i don't see the total going over 54 personally.
Anyways, hope everyone enjoys the game. Even if you hate both teams, remember that you are watching history in a football team that will not come around twice in a Lifetime.
Cheers!
