Gaye Pride

This morning I was dressed sharp. It was little Omar's graduation day and I was told to look nice, so I went to my go-to for semi-formal occasions. These duds include a white button up, tan slacks, brown belt and shoes, and a (tastefully) striped brown sport coat. Add to this a tie that's brown, tan, and light blue (to bring out the blue in my eyes, my sister would say) and brings the whole jawn together. Murph's hand-me-down shades with a brownish tint were the final touch on the first beautiful sunny day we've had in awhile. Oh, and did I mention it's Friday, so reasons for my good mood surpassed the morning outfit choice.

Keeping this great day moving in the right direction was essential. The next decision would be a big one. I get 13-18 minutes of Rypod listening in the morning. I love my pod, and believe it has the best assortment of amazing tunes that money could buy, or that I could pirate of the net. I needed to narrow down thousands of songs to a select few that fit my mood, and kept me in the zone. I needed something upbeat, yet macdaddy smooth, to blare and sing along to while getting my car-swagger on. Sublime, G-Love and all my other sunny day chill bands came to mind, but today they wouldn't do the trick. "Don't wanna be a playa no more" crossed my mind, but was canned because, on this morning, maybe I did wanna be a playa a little more. Then it hit me. I started the car, turned on the pod, and started pumping the Marvin Gaye, hitting myself for not thinking of this sooner.

Let's Get it On, Sexual Healing, I Heard it Through the Grape Vine....are you kidding me?! My driving was even affected by this decision, as I glided around turns and through green lights like I was a train on a track, and the conductor was M.G. himself. I cruised into work 5 minutes early, made my entrance, and exchanged gushing compliments with the lovely ladies in my classroom about how sexy we were looking. Omar must have picked up on the day's vibe, because the only shrieks he made during the graduation ceremony were those of joy, and they were welcome because the speaker thought it was a good idea to ramble while restless special needs kids got antsier and antsier to not be stuck in one place. As far as I'm concerned, Omar was just calling the guy out on it. You've got to admire the kids moxie though, and I will give him credit for a good day. After all, everyone has good days once and awhile right? Like I said, this is definitely one of them for me. I've been riding this vibe the whole day, and had to share it with you, if for no other reason than to suggest getting some Gaye Pride the next time you're swagger's up.
